Was at the opening of the new Omniplex cinema in Antrim last night. Great fun and thank you to Carole for showing Tom and myself round on Thursday afternoon. Went to see Limitless. Just wish my brain could work at that memory level

This Is One Sandcastle
Busy Week
I've had a busy week this week making some Logo Coasters for a client as well as trying to put together a group proposal for SpaceCraft in Belfast.
At time it's felt like I'm being watched
I love the image that the stack of coasters give to this logo. It would make a great award if fused together and polished with some text. Something to work on I think

Opening of Pia Raeymaekers Exhibition
I went along to the opening of Pia Raeymaekers exhibition at Craft NI this evening to look at her work.
Pia's work has been influenced by the environment around where she is living an working along the North Antrim coast of Northern Ireland and focuses on marine life like sea urchins and ammonites that can be found in the rocks around the beaches and cliffs.
She works mainly with cast glass but has started to experiment with porcelain & earthenware which marry well with skills she has made, mould making for casting glass and as you can see below complement each other.
Well done Pia on a excellent show

Pia Raeymaekers Glass Artist
Pia Raeymaekers is a Belgian born Glass artist currently based in Northern Ireland and working from a studio at Flowerfield Art Centre in Portstewart where she is currently artist in residence. She specializes in designing and producing cast glass sculptures and is also experienced in other hot and cold glass techniques.
I bumped into Pia while at Norma's exhibition working on pieces for her own exhibition that opens at Craft NI in Belfast on Thursday 7th April 2011. She was so kind and interesting and took time out from her busy schedule to show me around the studio's there.

Norma Burrows
I was at the opening of Norma's Exhibition on Saturday at Flowersfields Art Centre in Portstewart on the North Coast of Northern Ireland. Norma is a visual artist & photographer that also works with textiles.
NORMA Burrowes returns to Flowerfield with an exciting new exhibition of photographic images, following her residency in Karamea, New Zealand.
The exhibition, entitled ‘Karamea’ opens on April 2nd with a special drinks reception and viewing, an opportunity to see the images at close hand and meet the artist.
Norma’s visit to New Zealand has resulted in some stunning images for this interesting artist, who says of her work: “My work is photographic based. I capture impressions of my environment. With my camera, I combine photographic elements to reveal this extraordinary nature of ordinary daily details, to create my own truth of any chosen moment and respond to the feelings and histories that surround these daily details.”
The artist takes inspiration from the world around her, she says: “Sometimes a moment occurs that stops and transports me – my work is about relaying these moments, taking active inspiration from them and passing on their energy through my photography.
“These camera paintings go beyond physical representation and take inspiration from the transitional quality of any environment and life within it. I use macro a lot in my photography. Alongside these single images, I have been creating work with sets of images.”
Residency-based practice is central to Norma’s art, and the residency at Karamea had a great impact on her. Karamea is a small and remote town on the west coast of the South Island. “One of the many positive elements of my time there was living in a place and country where art is part of general life. This makes a big difference to the artist and being around people who enjoy art and actively collect it, helps the artist to not only survive but thrive creatively.”
